The parents of an 11-year-old female Colorado student are furious after her school allegedly allowed a biological male to bunk with her during a field trip to the East Coast without her, or their, consent simply because he identified as transgender.
Joe and Serena Wailes have, via Alliance Defending Freedom, called on Jefferson County Public Schools officials to explain why they failed to disclose the fact that their daughter would be sharing a bed with a boy after making it very clear that students would be segregated by sex during the overnight portions of the trip.
In a letter to the JeffCo School Board and Superintendent Tracy Dorland obtained by the Daily Signal, the ADF did not mince words, asking “whether JCPS will continue this practice of intentionally withholding information about rooming accommodations from parents like the Waileses, who object to their children rooming with a student of the opposite sex, regardless of the other student’s gender identity.”
“This practice renders it impossible for these parents to make informed decisions about their children’s privacy, upbringing, and participation in school-sponsored programs,” the ADF continued, adding that the Waileses, who have two other children in Grade 4, sought to know how they could opt out of the rooming policy, which allows students to bunk according to their gender identity, for future trips.
In an interview with the Daily Signal, Mrs. Wailes explained that she was “really upset,” and hadn’t even considered it a “possibility” that her daughter would be sleeping next to a boy. Her husband said he felt “helpless.”
The incident took place during the school trip to Philadelphia and Washington, DC in June 2023.
When the Wailes daughter went to her room, she discovered that her bunkmate was a biological boy who dressed and presented as a girl.
Uncomfortable with the thought of laying next to a male, she went to the bathroom and called her mother, who was on the trip as well.
The boy’s trans identity was confirmed via his parents, and after some back and forth, chaperones eventually moved him to another room, now leaving the girl with a female bunkmate.
“Throughout the entire evening, [the male student’s] privacy and feelings were always the primary concern of JCPS employees,” the ADF stated, referring to the Wailes daughter as “DW.”
It continued, “After JCPS disregarded DW’s privacy and the Waileses’ parental rights, JCPS then silenced DW, thus infringing on her freedom of speech, when a JCPS teacher told the three girls that they were not allowed to tell anyone that [he] was transgender, even though [he] voluntarily chose to share this information.”
These sicko’s in charge of our children need to be in a Physco Ward, they need to also be tested for drug addiction. This is not normal behavior to allow this despicable thing happen to any child.. Sue all involved in this horrendous act of extreme child abuse.

So sue the school and everyone who was in on the charade. Eleven year old girls are very often pubescent and very sensitive about their bodily changes, often have had their first period and entitled to modesty and privacy. A young xy person on puberty blockers perhaps or perhaps not has sensitivities also. But not one more than the other. Sue him, and his parents too. There needs to be acccountability taken for this violation of a young woman’s privacy.
It used to be that an adult, engaging or promoting this type of behavior with children would get you arrested and land you on a sex offender list but now you get to be a teacher. I don’t give a rats ass what consenting adults want to do, they can play dress up all they want but stop trying to shove it down my throat and leave our kids alone. There are two genders, male and female period. You can identify as a tree if you want to, that doesn’t make you a tree. There shouldn’t even be a thing as “trans kids” especially grade school kids. They are kids, CHILDREN. The only reason an 11 year old identifies as “trans” is because they have sick adults influencing their young minds. Children do not have the mental capacity at that young age to understand the full scope of what they’re doing, not because they’re stupid but because they’re kids. You can’t get a tattoo or buy cigarettes until you’re 18 but we’re going to allow kids to make life altering decisions such as this? It’s ok to say NO to your kids sometimes, in fact they need it. I’m not even going to get started on the “not telling the parents issue” but I will say any school that has a policy to prioritize a kid’s feelings at the expense of another’s rights and safety should immediately be defunded. Oh and here’s a thought……maybe our schools should focus more on teaching our kids things like reading, writing and arithmetic. You know things that might be useful in their lives. Maybe it’s just me, although I kinda doubt it but I think the kids should learn the alphabet before they learn about trans issues and drag queens. Of course that would mean getting back to education not indoctrination
